Piercing FAQs
MW jewelry is sold as singles unless stated otherwise.
Appointments are required. You can book your appointment here.
All of our piercings are performed with a sterile, single-use needle. We do not use piercing guns. Needles open a small space in the ear that leads to less swelling and scarring of the pierced area. Needles are more precise and ensure all piercings are in their proper placement and allow us more flexibility with the amount of piercings we can perform.
If you're running late for your appointment, we ask that you call to inform us BEFORE you are late. We will wait for a short period of time but not longer than 10 minutes so that we don't interfere with other scheduled appointments. If you are more than 10 minutes late your appointment will be considered "cancelled" and you'll be charged our cancellation fee. We recommend arriving 10 minutes early to your appointment.
Yes. Unfortunately we will have to charge a cancellation fee if you arrive more than 10 minutes late or no-show your appointment. We are a small business and the fee covers your time slot. Unless we are informed well beforehand, the only way to cancel the same day is to reschedule the appointment.
We cannot fit more than one person into each appointment slot, unfortunately. If more than one person would like to get pierced they will have to book a separate appointment.
We pierce withimplant grade titanium (ASTM F-136) flat back labrets. All of our stud options come with a standard titanium backing which is always included in the listed price.
No! We do not offer numbing and we do not recommend at-home numbing treatments before your piercing appointment. Numbing products constrict the blood vessels and decrease the blood flow in areas where the product is used. We want all the healthy blood in the area to promote good healing.
Additionally, numbing agents can change the way your tissue lays and presents at the time of the piercing. So what initially looks like a straight piercing can be crooked later on. We strive to make the expereince as quick and as painless as possible!
Absolutely! Make sure to let your piercer know prior to your appointment so that they can be aware and prepared to take any action necessary to keep you safe.
Make sure to eat something before your appointment to help decrease the likelihood of passing out. Let us know if you have vasovagal syncope so we can block off extra time in case you need to lay down for longer after the appointment.
Hoops tend to make the healing process more difficult. We avoid the extra stress and friction that can occur by avoiding hoops all together. Piercing with hoops or changing a piercing out to a hoop too earl can cause irritation bumps that can be diffcult to get rid of.
Daith piercings are exceptions as we can use a hoop with a diameter that is large enough to reduce possible irritation.
We recommend no more than 3 piercings per session, but this depends on the placements and the anatomy of your ear. This recommendation may be subject to change based on the piercer's evaluiation.
Pain is relative and depends on each individual client. We do everything we can to make sure your piercing experience is as quick and painless as possible. If you have concerns, discuss this with the piercer beforehand.
A small amount of blood after being pierced is normal. Slight bleeding may occur for 1-2 days after, especially when cleaning the piercing. If you think your bleeding isn't within the normal range, and is excessive, please contact your piercer.
Yes. Our policy for lobe piercings is 8 years and up. Helix, cartilage, and tragus piercings are available for 14 years and up. Conch, rook, and daith piercings are available for ages 16 and up. If you are under 18, you must have a legal guardian present and both must present valid forms of ID. Contact with more questions.
Due to concerns with sterilization we do not pierce with jewelry that is not purchased through MW Beauty Bar.
If you are getting a piercing with us we request you refrain from drinking alcohol prior to your appointment. This is for health and safety reasons and we will not pierce a client that is visibly intoxicated. Alcohol can cause blood thinning and may lead to excess bruising and swelling.
Discover after-care info here.
Do not clean your piercing with chemicals such as alcohol, Neosporin, or Bactine as these products can cause irritation. Instead, use sterile saline wipes or spray. If using saline spray use non-woven sterile gauze to clean.
Treat a new piercing as gently as possible, this will help healing be as quick and easy as possible. Always wash your hands with anti-bacterial soap before touching a healing piercing.
It's okay to go to the gym after getting pierced, just make sure to follow the aftercare instructions given to you and consult with the piercer if you feel necessary. We recommend waiting 2-3 weeks before swimming with a new piercing. Avoid lakes and ponds during the healing process, as these bodies of water may contain bacteria that can slow down the healing process.
**these are general guidelines to care for a new piercing. The main priority is to keep your piercing clean. Have your after care solution with you to clean with after swimming**
Sleeping on a new piercing can be painful. It can cause healing complications and shift the placement of the piercing. We recommend sleeping on your back or opposite side, or if necessary using a travel pillow with your ear placed in the opening.
Every client's healing time is different and healing times vary based on piercing location. Speak to your piercer about your specific piercing , or consult the healing chart above.
For most individuals, lobe piercings tend to remain open after a year or more. Cartilage piercings can take considerably longer. There is no exact time-frame so be cautious when leabing a piercing empty and check with your piercer.
We do not pierce clients who are pregnant or breastfeeding, as any infection that could possibly occur within the parent's piercing can be transferred to the child.
Children's Piercing FAQs
Ages 8 and up! We will still evaluate to make sure the child is ready, to protect their safety and wellbeing.
Helix piercings are permitted on anyone over the age of 13, with a legal guardian present. All other cartilage piercings are over 18. Call with questions.
